The Fundamental Flaw in Indian Medical Education System No One Talks About
We often discuss the flaws in the Indian medical education system.
No clinical exposure till the 4th year. Rote learning with no conceptual understanding. Crores of donation for management seats. And after spending 5 years and 1 crore and Plus, students are stressed because there are not enough PG seats.
In India, there are over 1 lakh MBBS graduates every year, but only around 45,000 PG seats. That means for every 10 doctors, only 4 get a PG. What happens to the other 6?
But these are just symptoms. There is a fundamental flaw hidden deep inside.
The fundamental flaw is: The Indian system makes every doctor think the same.
Let's Play a Game: What Comes to Your Mind When You Hear MBBS?
If I say A for Apple, 98% of you will say Apple in 1 second. Why? Because that's what we were taught in kindergarten. That one answer was fed to us for 15 years.
Same happens with MBBS.
If I say MBBS in India, what comes to your mind? NEET, Donation, No PG Seat, Low Salary.
98% of students say the same because that's what the system taught them.
But no one ever asked you this question in school:
"Think of different ways to become a global doctor in the USA, Canada, Australia or UK."
If you think, you will find there are smarter ways. And that's where the problem lies.
Do You See What The Problem Is?
Imagine a garden with different flowers. Some are tall, some are short, some are red, some are yellow. That's how students are in 12th class. Every student is unique.
But the Indian medical education system is like a teacher who comes with scissors and cuts every flower to the same height. Same books, same 19 subjects, same theory exams, same struggle for NEET PG.
It doesn't want extraordinary doctors. It wants same doctors.
It cuts your dream of becoming a doctor in the USA or UK.
Why Was The System Designed Like This?
This system was not designed for today. It was designed during the British era, inspired by the Industrial Revolution of the 18th century.
Factories needed workers who were the same. Who would follow orders, memorize the manual, and do the same job every day. So, schools were designed to produce same-type workers — not thinkers.
The Indian medical education system still works on that factory model.
- It gives you ANSWERS, it doesn't teach you to ask QUESTIONS.
- It asks: "What is the definition of Myocardial Infarction?"
- It never asks: "A 55-year-old patient came with chest pain, how will you think and diagnose him?"
But USMLE, PLAB, MCCQE and real hospital life in the USA/Canada/UK ask you the second question. They test your clinical thinking, not your memory power.
That is why even after 5 years of MBBS, Indian students fail to crack USMLE in the first attempt.
The Reality: From 98% Dreamers to 2% Achievers
A famous study by NASA found that:
- 98% of children think different and creative before going to school.
- By the age of 25, only 2% think different. 98% think the same.
The same is true for medical aspirants. In 12th class, 98% of you dream of a white coat in a big US or UK hospital. But by age 25, after MBBS in India, only 2% actually make it to the USA/UK. The other 98% are stuck in the cycle of NEET PG attempts, working as a duty doctor for Rs. 40,000–60,000 per month.
Is it their fault? No. It's the system's fault.
The Solution: How Caribbean Medical Universities Make You Different
This is where MBBS in Caribbean (West Indies) Islands changes the game completely. Caribbean universities don't make you the same doctor. They make you a "Global Doctor".
Here is the difference:
1. USA Curriculum
Top Caribbean universities like BIU, Windsor, AUA, AUB, St George's follow the American MD curriculum. You are trained the way American doctors are trained.
2. You Learn to Ask Questions
Instead of definitions, you learn through clinical cases, hospital rotations in the USA, and problem-based learning. This is exactly what USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 ask.
3. Your PG is FREE and PAID
In the USA and UK, PG (Residency) is not paid by you. The government PAYS YOU.
- USA: $60,000 – $70,000 (Rs. 50-60 Lakhs) per year stipend during 3-4 years of PG
- UK: £35,000+ per year
Your PG becomes your earning phase, not your spending phase.
