The Caribbean is made up of 13 sovereign nations and 17 dependent territories spread across more than 1.06 million square miles between North and South America. English, Spanish, French, Dutch and Antillean Creole are all commonly spoken across the region, and its universities have built a reputation as one of the most accessible gateways into US-style medical education.

US Licensure

Licensure & Residency Application

Licensure in the US is governed state-by-state — all states require a diploma, an ECFMG certificate, and passing scores on USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, Step 2 CS and Step 3, along with completed residency training. The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB.org) lists individual state requirements. Every residency application also needs medical school transcripts, an MSPE (Dean's Letter), and three letters of recommendation — and we recommend researching the ERAS application process early.
