Eligibility
  • A premedical preparation year with a science-field bachelor’s degree (health science, bioscience, etc.)
  • UMAT (Health Sciences Admission Test) — apply by end of June, test held in July
  • IELTS or TOEFL with a minimum score of 7.0 (waived for those with a prior NZ undergraduate/master’s degree)

POSTGRADUATE TRAINING

A 2-year postgraduate training scope helps international doctors build clinical and research skills to take back to their home country. Eligibility requires a primary medical degree listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, home-country registration, at least one year of prior practice, acceptance into a recognized scholarship/fellowship, and satisfying Council English-language requirements. Training plans include structured education, clinical responsibilities, a training schedule and quarterly progress reporting. After graduation, doctors progress from housing officer (2 years) to Registrar, with entry into specialty training typically taking four or more years, followed by another four to six years of training.
